ADVISORY COUNCILS
MONTANA BOARD OF PUBLIC EDUCATION
The Montana Board of Public Education has the authority under 2-15-122 , MCA, to create advisory councils as needed. The Board will seek expert advice from educators and professional education organizations to participate in an advisory council capacity.

Early Literacy and Numeracy Advisory Council
The Board of Public Education created the Early Literacy Advisory Council on September 14, 2023 to provide recommendations to the Board on the requirements in HB 352 to provide targeted interventions to support 3rd grade reading proficiency.
In 2025, the Legislature authorized HB 338, which included math and numeracy in the early targeted interventions. The Board reauthorized the Early Literacy Advisory Council as the Early Literacy and Numeracy Advisory Council to work to incorporate these new requirements into the already existing early targeted interventions statutes in 20-7-Part 18 , MCA.
