COMMUNITY CHOICE SCHOOLS
The Community Choice Schools Commission is responsible for approving charter contracts for Community Choice Schools and approving traditional school districts as other authorizers who may authorize Choice Schools within their district boundaries. All members of the Commission must have a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Choice Schools as a strategy for strengthening public education.
This Commission has statewide jurisdiction and authority and is attached to the Board of Public Education for administrative purposes.
The Commission consists of seven volunteer members appointed by state legislative leaders including the two appointed by the Governor, one each by the Senate Majority and Minority Leaders, one each by the House Majority and Minority Leaders, and one member appointed by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Members are appointed for three year staggered terms.
Members appointed to the commission must collectively possess substantial experience and expertise in board governance, business, finance, education, management, and philanthropy. All members of the commission must have a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to choice schools as a strategy for strengthening public education.
